Disability Sport Yorkshire Awards Evening 2025
On Friday, April 25, 2025, more than 200 athletes, sponsors, coaches and volunteers gathered at Leeds United’s Elland Road Centenary Pavilion to celebrate their stellar achievements at local, national and international level in 2024.
The Disability Sport Yorkshire Annual Awards Dinner recognised the efforts and achievements of a dynamic and growing regional sporting community which sees disabled athletes encouraged and supported to defy their disabilities and compete in a wide range of sports.
The evening’s award winners were selected by a judging panel from 99 nominations in the various categories, an initial group of nominees which was narrowed down to 44 finalists before the judges deliberated.
Guests were welcomed to the evening’s celebrations by the President of Disability Sport Yorkshire, Sir Rodney Walker, and after an enjoyable three-course meal, attendees were entertained and inspired by guest speaker Steve Judge.
In a 30-minute high-octane address, the award-winning Judge took the audience through his own story following a devastating road accident in 2001, which left him with life-altering lower limb injuries.
A keen runner and swimmer until his accident, he battled and overcame his injuries to win national, European and two world championship titles as a Para triathlete.
The presentations of each of the evening’s awards in 10 categories were then warmly greeted and celebrated by the dinner’s attendees, who also congratulated the short-listed nominees in each category.
