Opening Doors Kirklees Project

DSY is delighted to be working in partnership with Leonard Cheshire Disability to deliver the Opening Doors Project in Kirklees. The project, funded by Kirklees Council, Community Partnerships, seeks to help people at risk of social isolation, by offering a variety of strategies to help them get “out and about”.

Following on from previous social inclusion projects in the area, run by DSY, this initiative is looking at matching trained volunteers with people who may need support or encouragement to get out and try activities.

Volunteers are being recruited, and referrals being taken from families, friends and health professionals.

In addition to volunteer matching, an online forum where people with disabilities/ long term health conditions, their family and friends can chat about common issues of concern, and make recommendations on services / activities that have been accessed.
