Training and Coaching
Since its’ inception Disability Sport Yorkshire has made a major contribution to developing the awareness and technical expertise in disability sport among mainstream providers. We have developed and delivered a range of training opportunities to mainstream sporting organisations in order to facilitate the transfer of responsibility for disability sport from the margins to the mainstream.
We deliver training to coaches and officials in governing bodies of sport, staff in local authority leisure services and volunteers who support disabled people to take part in physical activity. Each year we contributed to future workforce development by delivering disability equality and technical skills workshops to students on sports related courses in Yorkshire universities and colleges. In addition, our team delivers a range of programmes including:
- Community Sports Leaders Awards
- Deaf and Disability Equality Training
- Sportability programmes
- Athletic Leader Awards
- Continuing Professional Development
- Awareness training for volunteers and facilitator training for disabled and non-disabled
Over 500 volunteers are currently registered with DSY and receive both initial and refresher training. Our programmes on Disability Equality, Adapted PE and Involving Disabled Pupils courses are in the process of being reviewed and accredited.
We can offer discrete programmes of training for partner organisations or places on courses being offered at our base in Wakefield.
