Local Authority Partnerships

We are committed to partnership working by bringing together all stakeholders and by providing guidance and expertise, ensuring a co-ordinated sport and physical activity offer for disabled people of all ages and abilities. We work with strategic partners, locally, regionally and nationally, to maximise resources and deliver more choices in more sports and share a common approach on how sport is planned and delivered.

Our contract work with local authorities and others has significantly boosted access to sport and physical activity in the local area for disabled children and adults. An outstanding example of collaborative work with local authorities is our partnership with Kirklees Council. Kirklees Council Community Partnerships initially awarded a grant for DSY to deliver a 3 stage project to develop inclusion in sport for disabled people across their authority. Following the success of this project, in 2014 Kirklees commissioned DSY to undertake a 3 year Social Inclusion Project targeting those with a social care need, such as mental or physical ill-health, dementia or elderly people. The aim of this project is to engage isolated individuals, in physical activity on a regular basis.

‘I would like to thank you for the sports leaders you provided at the recent West Yorkshire Winter School Games. It was commented on by many people that the volunteers this year were exceptional and you should be very proud of them. Please do pass on the praise and our thanks.’
